An eighth grader at West Platte was killed in an accident on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in rural Platte County.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to Highway 45 and Grass Pad Road where Gage A. Fogt, 14, was hit by a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup traveling northbound.
The incident happened at 6:42 p.m. and Fogt was identified by his family that was on scene. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Southern Platte Fire Protection District assisted on the scene.
According to a report from KCTV5, Fogt was involved in an argument in a car and then got out of the car and was hit while walking.
In a press release provided by the PCSO on Oct. 31, there makes no mention of that situation.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor at this time, according to the press release. The driver’s name wasn’t released.
When asked if texting and driving or speeding was involved in the accident, the PCSO noted the investigation is still ongoing and to contact them at a later date when the investigation is completed.
Visitation for Fogt will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Weston. Burial will be on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa.
Fogt was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was a Boy Scout in Troop 167 out of Leavenworth, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in the form of cash donations are suggested to his scout troop. Donations may be sent to BSA Troop 167, c/o Judi Price, 403 N. Broadway St., Leavenworth, Kan., 66048.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of West Platte student Gage Fogt, who passed away Wednesday night,” West Platte superintendent Dr. John Rinehart said in an email.
Counseling services were provided to the staff and students the following day.
