West Platte basketball player Karen Knox will be playing for Graceland University this upcoming season.
Knox had narrowed down her college choices to schools in Iowa, the others were William Penn and Central College.
Knox decided earlier this year that she would become a Yellowjacket and that helped make senior night a little bit easier to handle knowing she was going to still be playing.
“I went up in December and stayed with the basketball girls,” Knox said. “It was a recruiting night and I got to know all the people and they all seemed nice. It was like Weston, which I liked.
“I’ve been playing since third grade and to get the chance to play for someone, it is really exciting.”
She attended the Bill Stutz Basketball Academy since third grade and played on a number of competitive teams growing up.
She will be playing guard for Graceland and will have a familiar face on the team with her as Mid-Buchanan’s Allyson Swank is also headed to the Heart of America Athletic Conference school.
“This is a good day,” Graceland coach Frank Howell said at the signing. “I’ve been recruiting Karen for two years.”
The Yellowjackets were 8-22 last year.
“Karen is a hard-working determined basketball player who brought positive leadership to our team,” West Platte coach Jennifer Lawson said. “I am thrilled that she has committed to play at the next level, and I am excited to watch her play basketball at Graceland University.”
She plans to major in pediatric nursing and minor in Spanish, which would include studying abroad.
