A wrong-way driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol caused a two-fatality accident on Thanksgiving morning in Platte County, according to reports.
The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23 when a Honda Pilot entered the southbound lanes of Interstate 29 going north near Barry Road. An unidentified driver described as a man in his 30s suffered moderate injuries when his vehicle caused a head-on collision with a Honda CRV, killing both occupants.
Reports have identified the victims as 40-year-old Nelson Guzman-Cuellar and his longtime girlfriend Norma Erazo, who were leaving work and headed toward their home in Kansas City, Kan. They were declared dead at the scene.
The suspect’s Pilot went off the west side of the roadway and traveled down an embankment while photos from the scene showed the blue CRV on its roof in the roadway.
