KANSAS CITY – Park Hill kicked the spring off with a second-place finish, right ahead of Park Hill South, in the KC Metro Boys’ Golf Showdown at Swope Park Memorial on March 18.
Out of 11 teams, the two Platte County schools were at the top of the rankings and behind first-place Liberty North, which produced 402 points. Park Hill was one stroke better than Park Hill South, tallying 428.
The Trojans had three golfers finish in the top-10, led by Zach Cato and Alex Maga who tied for second place. The duo had 80 strokes on the day, only trailing Liberty North’s Caden Mickelson who shot a 72.
Gavin Schaag was in the mix with three less strokes than his teammates, tying Park Hill South’s Matt Parker in eighth place. The Panthers’ top finisher was Hayden Lea with 82 strokes and a tie for sixth place.
Park Hill South junior Clayton Wichman just broke the top-15 – along with two other golfers – in a tie at 85 strokes. The Panthers’ next golfer, Drew Kobayashi, tied for 22nd place with 87 strokes.
Park Hill was able to pull out the second-place finish thanks to Hudson Browne’s 92 strokes, one less than John King, and Ethan Howell ended with 95. Park Hill South senior Keegan Feder tied with Browne and Nathan Verachtert shot a 97.
Park Hill and Park Hill South will join Platte County in a tournament at Tiffany Greens on April 4. That is the Trojans’ home course.
