WESTON – Not only has the West Platte girls’ basketball team (10-9) strung together the most consecutive victories in a row this season, but they have also moved over .500 for the first time under McKenzie Reagan.
Coming off a fourth-place finish in the competitive North Platte Invitational Tournament, West Platte had lost three of its last four games before turning that into a 4-game winning streak in a single week. The Lady Blue Jays started the run with a 51-14 triumph over South Holt (0-17) on Jan. 29.
South Holt was held to three or less points in three of the four quarters and West Platte forced 30 turnovers in its first home win of the season. Julia Pattison shot 7-of-12 from the field, scoring 16 points and dishing out five assists.
Avery Holmes made four of the Lady Blue Jays’ six 3-pointers – along with Sam Baker and Catelyn Carlston making one each – for 14 points. Blair McHenry only missed three shots, scored 10 points, grabbed nine boards and forced six steals.
West Platte hit the road the next day and had a double-overtime thriller against Savannah (10-9), surviving 39-38. The first four quarters were tight as the game was tied at 31 at the end of regulation.
Heading into overtime, Pattison had 13 points and McHenry had 10 points. Pattison and Holmes both scored a bucket in the first overtime period and one more frame was needed to declare a victor.
The Lady Blue Jays scored all four of their points from the charity stripe. McHenry made a pair of free throws and Holmes added one before Pattison went 1-of-2 to put West Platte up 39-38 and the defense held up on the other end to secure back-to-back wins.
West Platte had a night off and was well-rested for a 44-24 victory over Gallatin (10-9) on Feb. 1. The Lady Blue Jays were ahead 44-15 through three quarters on a night they scored 20 points in the paint and 23 points off 26 forced turnovers.
McHenry made a pair of shots from behind the arc to finish with 14 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Baker finished with 10 points and two steals.
West Platte beat Lawson (13-8) by 19 to not only move over .500 on the season but also became 2-2 on the year in KCI Conference play on Feb. 2. The Lady Blue Jays had 16 steals and 14 second chance points en route to the 48-29 win.
Pattison had an impressive outing, tallying 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Holmes shot 5-of-11 from downtown to score 13 points along with having four steals.
