WESTON – At the KCI Wrestling Tournament, Mid-Buchanan finished in the top-2 and West Platte finished in the bottom-2 at West Platte High School on Jan. 24.
North Platte is co-opped with Mid-Buchanan and had an impressive outing, having the girls finish as KCI Champs with 154.5 points and the boys being the runner-up with 161.5 – only trailing Lathrop’s 193-point outing. The West Platte girls ended in fifth place with 20.5 points and the boys wrapped up in sixth place with 65.6 points.
Ryder Coons (138), Cooper Kirkham (132), Colton Kirkham (175) and Owen Stockbauer (215) all finished as KCI Champions to help lift Mid-Buchanan to a second-place finish. Along with 165-pounder Galen Christiansen and 120-pounder Grady Coons who both took fourth place, the North Platte athletes had an impressive performance.
Colton Kirkham hasn’t lost a match all year and that didn’t change in his 24th try against Lathrop’s Owen Stockbauer (215), which resulted in a 1:22-pin. Stockbauer moved to 17-3 on the year with back-to-back-to-back pins.
Ryder Coons won by fall over Hunter Mumm (Plattsburg) and Gage DeShon (Lathrop), while Cooper Kirkham pinned Jacob Clark (Lathrop) in 1:57 to secure the first-place finish.
Sierra Crook is the only girl from North Platte who wrestles, and she won the 110-weight class which consisted of two matches against Lathrop’s Kala Piatt. Cook pinned Piatt in 19 seconds and 43 seconds.
Jhett Chandler had the most impressive outing for West Platte, taking third place in the 138-weight class. He earned 13 team points, the only West Platte wrestler to be in double digits.
Chandler lost his first match, being pinned in 2:40 by Lathrop’s Gage DeShon. He bounced back with a 1:44 win by fall over Kooper Mathews (Penney) to advance to the third-place match where Hunter Mumm (Plattsburg) fell in 48 seconds.
Canton Wilkins (113) and Cuin Vincent (120) both collected nine points at the KCI Tournament. Colton DePetre placed fourth in the 132-weight class, falling to Lawson’s Josh Teegarden in his last match of the tournament.
Jacob Larimer entered the day with four wins on the season and walked away with one more and a fourth-place finish in the 157-weight class. All three of his matches were decided by pins.
Garrett Moritz (190) and Matthew Haynes (215) both finished in fourth place as West Platte had seven top-4 finishes. Jackson Rothwell (150), Brody Scott (165), James Schulte (175) and Sam Newcomb (285) all scored two points apiece.
On the girls’ side, Hana Hoover moved to 17-13 on the season with a third-place finish in the 140-weight class. She scored nine points, the most of the three West Platte wrestlers.
In her second match of the day, Addison Bailey (120) won by an 11-5 decision over Mid-Buchanan’s Kamryn Kendrick. She was pinned in 1:29 and 23 seconds in her other two matches.
In the 145-weight class, Emily Haynes was pinned in her first two matches but bounced back with a win by fall. Annalise Killinger (Lawson) fell in 1:25 to Haynes.
