PLATTSBURG – Staying unbeaten in KCI Conference play, the North Platte girls’ basketball team (17-4) blew out Plattsburg (12-9) on its courtwarming on Feb. 2.
Moving 4-0 in the KCI Conference with three more conference matchups left, North Platte controls its own destiny in pursuit of a conference title. The Lady Panthers started off 3-1 last year and 4-0 the year prior in conference play, but they struggled to win the last few KCI games both years.
North Platte had the opportunity to play eight straight games on its home court – three of which were in the North Platte Invitational Tournament – with two of the last three coming against St. Joseph Christian (15-5). Five days after losing by 10 in the second round of the tournament, the Lady Panthers avenged the loss with a 53-40 victory over the Lady Lions on Jan. 30.
North Platte had a massive first quarter to take an early 16-3 lead and held onto that margin the rest of the way. It helped that the team shot the ball well, converting on 54 percent of the shots from the field and 57 percent from behind the arc.
Brianna DeBord scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and had four rebounds, while Kenedie Summers ended with 11 points on 2-of-3 from deep along with five assists. Lindsay Ramsey had her first double-double of the year, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
In North Platte’s first road game in 28 days, Bishop LeBlond (15-3) pulled out a 53-40 win on Jan. 31. The Lady Panthers were outrebounded by 10 and outscored 10-0 on second chance points, not to mention leaving many points out there with a 25 percent outing from the charity stripe.
Kenedie Summers led the team with nine points, along with five rebounds, and DeBord had eight points. Ramsey finished with five points, six rebounds and five steals.
North Platte had a matchup with Lawson (13-8) on Feb. 9 and will head to Lathrop (19-0) on Feb. 9. East Buchanan (10-11) will come to town for the final KCI Conference matchup of the season on Feb. 13.
