The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged home invasion by an erratic individual that ended in a shooting death.
At about 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 the sheriff’s office responded to a call of suspicious activity outside a residence in the 15000 block of Masonic Drive in Dearborn.
The homeowner at the residence reported observing the partially clothed man demonstrate erratic behavior outside the residence, praying to a horse, and attacking the homeowner’s dog. When the man attempted to forcibly enter the residence, he was shot by the homeowner.
When deputies arrived on scene, the man was found deceased at the entrance to the residence. He was later identified as Joshua C. Hinderliter, a 37-year-old white male resident of Dearborn. According to Meyers Funeral Chapel, cremation arrangements for Hinderliter are pending.
As a result of the reported shooting, the North Platte School District was placed on lock down for approximately one hour.
