Platte County prepares space for new judge, court division

The Platte County Commission is making moves in anticipation of the formation of a new division of the Platte County Circuit Court.

At a special meeting held Monday, Aug. 21 at the Platte County Administration Center, commissioners approved a contract with SFS Architecture for design services to update and create space for a new court. In June, Missouri government approved legislation to expand Platte County’s Circuit Court – the Sixth Division court. Currently, the county houses the courtrooms of five judges, with a sixth division set to form after a new judge is appointed by Gov. Mike Parson.

A special commission will meet Friday, Aug. 25 at the Platte County Courthouse to conduct public interviews of the judicial applicants and to select a panel of three nominees for the vacancy.

The $67,000 contract between the county and SFS Architecture will fund design services for updated security at the door of the Platte County Courthouse as well as how best to create space for a new division of the court.

Also at the special meeting, commissioners approved bid awards with RS Electric Corporation for an updated generator at the Platte County Resource Center, as well as with Axis Construction Group for interior finishing work, also at the Resource Center.

Plans are under way to relocate the Platte County Sheriff’s Office from the Administration Center in Platte City to the Resource Center, located in Kansas City near KCI Airport. This will free up space in the administration center, allowing the relocation of other county offices, such as the prosecutor’s office, which is currently in the Platte County Courthouse.
