Swimming roundup: Trojans win quad in St. Joe

Park Hill picked up three wins at the St. Joseph Central quad on Tuesday, Dec. 14 in St. Joseph.

The Trojans beat Savannah, 140-30, then won 133-37 over the host Indians and 152-16 against Bishop LeBlond.

Park Hill won nine of the 12 events and swept the relays.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Gabby Culp, Grace Hagner, Emma Owens and Emily Fickenscher won in 2:04.42, a nine-second margin.  Morgan Cox, Fickenscher, Kaelin Link and Gabby Culp took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Cox, Emma Owen, Hagner and Emma Will was first in 4:09.41.

Fickenscher won the 200-yard IM, beating teammate Culp. The Trojans had placers first through fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with Hagner winning and Emily Wickerham and Aspyn Howard rounding out the top three.

Owen, a sophomore, won the 100-yard backstroke, beating teammate Leila Kramer. Park Hill went 1-2 in the 100-yard breaststroke with Arielle Janssens winning and Wickerham taking second.

Will won the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.96) and was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle. Link, a sophomore, won the 100-yard freestyle, while teammate Cox was second. 

Blue Springs 188, Platte County 168

Blue Springs pulled out a close win in a dual against Platte County on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Platte County Community Center North in Platte City.

The Wildcats won 10 of the 12 events.

Platte County got wins from Drew DeLay and Shannon Banark.

DeLay, a freshman, won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:57.08, a winning margin of nine seconds. 

Banark won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.24.

The Pirates had a number of runner-up finishes: 200-yard medley relay team of Maddie Kunz, Maddie Klippenstein, Meredith Ballou and DeLay; DeLay in the 50 freestyle; Lindsey Swindler in the 100-yard butterfly; Sophia Zimmerman in the 100-yard freestyle; Kunz in the 100-yard backstroke; Zimmerman, Klippenstein, Madeline Judy and Banark in the 200-yard freestyle relay; Banark in the 100-yard breaststroke and Sage Nichols, DeLay, Zimmerman and Banark in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
