WEST PLATTE – Coming off its third 2-game losing skid of the season, the West Platte boys’ basketball team (12-8) bounced back with four straight victories.
Having only one win in three tries at home, West Platte defeated South Holt (12-6) 61-50 on Jan. 29. In the six matchups since 2019, the Blue Jays have yet to lose to the Knights.
After that, West Platte matched up with Gallatin (9-9) on Feb. 1. This wasn’t originally on the schedule but both teams wanted to make up for lost time after the Lawson Tournament was cancelled so they played for the fifth time since 2022.
The stakes weren’t as high as the last matchup – which was in the 2023 Class 2 District 15 Tournament – but it had the same result, a West Platte win. The Blue Jays came out on top by a score of 54-50 to win its third straight of the series and four of the last five.
West Platte hit the road and defeated Lawson (7-11) 56-36 on Feb. 2. The Blue Jays had won six straight against the Cardinals from 2019 to 2022 before losing last year, so they were able to get back in the winning column against the KCI Conference foe.
West Platte came out on top over another road opponent, doing so against DeKalb (2-15) on Feb. 5. The Blue Jays entered their fifth conference matchup of the season – with two wins and two losses in the KCI – against Lathrop (3-16) on Feb. 6.
There will be two more regular season games ahead of the Class 2 District 15 Tournament, both of which are against tough conference opponents who beat the Blue Jays earlier this year in two separate tournaments. West Platte will host East Buchanan (13-6) on Feb. 9 and have its regular season finale against Plattsburg (18-4) on Feb. 13.
