A familiar name is returning to Platte City politics, but voters won’t see it on the April 8 ballot. Former mayor Dave Brooks is running a write-in campaign for Platte City mayor against unopposed incumbent Frank Offutt. In 2008, Offutt won the seat from incumbent Brooks by a two-to-one margin, but that was hardly the first time the two mayors had met at the ballot box. After serving two terms as an alderman, Offutt ran for mayor in 1998 and defeated two other candidates, including Brooks. In 2002, Brooks came out on top, serving six years as mayor before his defeat by Offutt in 2008. Brooks launched an unsuccessful bid to take back the mayor’s seat in 2012. CROWDED PRIMARY Filing closed today for the Aug. 5 primary race for central committees and County offices. Yet another Republican candidate entered the fray for Presiding Commissioner — Russ Wojtkiewicz will face off against fellow Republicans Jim Plunkett and Ron Schieber to see who will take over for Jason Brown, who is not running for re-election. Republicans Nancy Armstrong and Robert Boyer will vie for the County Clerk’s office. No Democrats filed for County office.
