Platte County needed a few extra points to win its match in straight sets Wednesday, Aug. 27 at Park Hill High School in Kansas City, Mo. The Pirates picked up the win 25-19, 27-25 in their first match of the season. Platte County returned to action Tuesday night, but the result was not available at The Citizen’s deadline. Platte County outside hitter Melissa Ditter led Platte County with seven kills, and senior Maren Mair and junior Kenedy Knox added six each in the win against Park Hill, which dropped to 0-2. Trojans outside hitter Gabbie Sweeney recorded a team-high seven kills in the loss, while senior libero Olivia Nowakowski tallied 12 digs. Park Hill returned to action Tuesday night with a home match vs. Truman, but the result was unavailable at The Citizen’s deadline. The Trojans face Oak Park on Wednesday, Sept. 4. West Platte 2, Orrick 0 The Bluejays picked up their first win of the year last Thursday, 25-12, 25-23. West Platte lost its season opener two days prior in two sets to Class 3 Savannah, which qualified for the state playoffs last season. The Bluejays return to action Thursday, Sept. 4 at home when they host East Buchanan. They swept the season series with the Bulldogs last year, winning all four sets.
