The North Platte and West Platte basketball teams had some highs and lows throughout the winter, but seven players have earned awards in the aftermath of the season.
The West Platte girls ended the year with one of their best records in the 21st century, posting 16 wins and nine losses along with starting off 7-0 in the KCI Conference and clinching the No. 1 seed in the Class 2 District 15 Tournament. Junior point guard Julia Pattison was a unanimous selection on the KCI All-Conference Team after scoring 10.64 points, grabbing 4.88 rebounds, dishing out 1.88 assists and forcing 2.92 steals per game.
The Lady Blue Jay senior duo of Colby Shepardson and Madisyn Matlick ended their high school careers on a high note, finishing with a pair of KCI Honorable Mention selections. The West Platte boys made it to a district championship game for the third straight year as 3-year starter Charlie Kinslow capped off his senior season with a unanimous selection on the KCI All-Conference Team. The point guard posted impressive numbers this past season, leading the Blue Jays in total points, defensive rebounds, assists and steals.
Kinslow averaged 13.8 points, 3.6 defensive rebounds – and 5.3 total – 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals, which was also good enough for an all-district selection. The North Platte girls won 21 games in 28 tries for the fifth straight year with a winning record as two players made the all-conference team and all-district team.
