Engineers said the task wasn’t impossible.Twenty teams made of up of 25 individuals each showed up and proved that theory right Saturday, April 18 at KCI Airport, raising more than $60,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City in the process. The first Pull A Plane event in Kansas City, Mo. went on despite some adverse weather conditions with each team taking the chance to pull a 300,000-pound FedEx Airbus A300 cargo plane 20 feet on the tarmac outside of Terminal A.
Each team had a minimum fundraising goal of $2,500 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which aim to give families a place to stay while their child receives treatment at area hospitals, but many teams doubled that amount. They exceeded their $55,000 goal by more than $5,000.
A team of “strong arms” were also on hand to help out teams that needed help getting the massive plan moving.
The American Century team recorded the fastest plane pull. WireCo WorldGroup, which helped organize the event, was the top fundraising team at $7,885, while Renee Devereux was the top individual at $1,975. Express Jet won the best team spirit award.
