A Kansas City, Mo. man was charged Monday, April 20 with a pair of felonies after allegedly firing several shots from a handgun at his father and a female acquaintance at a southern Platte County apartment.

Ryan Lentz

According to a probable cause statement, the incident occurred at Ryan Lentz’s Wau Lin Cree apartment just off of Green Hills Road. Authorities responded to the scene at about 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 in response to a reported shooting.

The female victim provided an account that Lentz, 25, and his father Wayne Lentz became involved in a physical altercation inside the apartment which led to the shooting. She was struck in the foot and went with Wayne Lentz to the hospital for treatment.

Wayne Lentz declined to provide a statement to authorities.

According to the female victim, Wayne Lentz and his son began fighting after a verbal argument in the living room. She came in to find Ryan Lentz holding his father down on the couch in a choke hold. Wayne Lentz eventually broke free, and he left with his female acquaintance.

The victim said they sat in Wayne Lentz’s truck allowing him to catch his breath when Ryan Lentz came outside.

Ryan Lentz stood in front of the truck preventing it from leaving, and Wayne Lentz eventually used the vehicle to nudge his son, according to the woman’s statement. That’s when Ryan Lentz produced a handgun and began firing at the vehicle, which drove into the grass and out of the parking lot as shots continued to come in their direction.

Once in custody, Ryan Lentz declined to give a statement. He remains in custody on a $50,000 cash-only bond, charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action.
