The West Platte football team led Lone Jack by as much as 35 points and defeated the Mules 42-27 in the first game of the fall season.
The Blue Jays came out of the gate fast, soaring to a quick 20-7 lead after the opening period. West Platte didn’t allow any more touchdowns until the starters were replaced late in the second half with a comfortable 47-7 lead.
West Platte had a strong first half and lead its opponent 34-7 at the break. The Blue Jays didn’t let off the gas and continued to score 13 straight points to close out the third quarter before Lone Jack eventually got back on the board, but it was too little, too late.
It was Mason Montez’s first career start at the quarterback position and he didn’t disappoint. The Blue jay ended his debut with 179 passing yards.
Emmett Sullivan had an impressive outing on the ground as he ended the night with 115 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. West Platte ended with 222 total rushing yards.
Trent Taylor led all Blue Jay wide receivers with 109 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. West Platte’s defense also showed out led by Zayne Truxal with 10 tackles and a sack while Taylor added six tackles and two interceptions.
The Blue Jays only allowed Lone Jack to have 95 total yards of offense until the reserves came in. West Platte is set to take on South Harrison at home this coming week.
