POLO – It was a rough start to the fall for the West Platte football team (0-1) who wasn’t able to put any points on the board and fell in a one-sided affair against Polo (1-0) on August 25.
Polo took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to 14-0 in the second quarter, which ended up being the score at the break. West Platte had one possession in the red zone – set up by a 32-yard reception by Cohen Kite – but it failed to capitalize on the scoring opportunity, turning the ball over on downs at the 8-yard line.
Polo went on to score two more touchdowns, winning the contest 29-0. The Panthers ran for 301 yards and passed for 121 yards.
West Platte senior Dominic Williams led the West Platte offense with 16 rushes for 56 yards, along with freshman Brady McMillan who added 15 yards on the ground. Blue Jays’ quarterback Kane Cogan completed nine of his 26 passes for 101 yards with Kite bringing in four of those passes for 47 yards.
This was the second consecutive season that West Platte opened the season with a loss against Polo. The Blue Jays will look to bounce back in the home opener against South Harrison (0-1) – who has lost the last two matchups against West Platte – on September 1.
