In the regular season finale, the West Platte volleyball team (17-10-1) swept North Platte (4-22) 3-0 at West Platte High School on Oct. 19.
West Platte set the tone early in the match and took down North Platte 25-7 in the opening set. The Panthers bounced back and made each of the next two sets more competitive, but still fell short.
Liby Vandel’s 8 kills, 7 digs and 2 blocks to go along with Arianna Nower’s 6 aces helped lead the Blue Jays over the Panthers. West Platte won the second and third sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-16 to end the regular season with a victory.
Panther senior Trinity Whitford led the match with 10 blocks and Bailey Richardson ended with 8 assists. Siera Melton ended with 6 kills and Kamryn Hanway finished with 3 aces in the match for North Platte.
The Blue Jays have won three of their last four matches, while the Panthers have lost nine of their last ten matches. The KCI rivals will both be heading into separate district tournaments.
West Platte will be the three seed in the Class 2 District 15 Tournament at East Buchanan High School and North Platte will be the five seed in the Class 1 District 15 Tournament at Plattsburg High School. In the first round, the Blue Jays will face Mid-Buchanan (17-13-1) on Oct. 23, and the Panthers will be taking on Lutheran Kansas City (3-19) on Oct. 21.
