Following a pair of losses in the Panther Classic Tournament, the Platte County boys’ soccer team (14-2) bounced back with three consecutive regular season victories.
The Pirates were on the road at Smithville High School on Oct. 14 to take on the Warriors (15-5) in a defensive battle that took two overtime periods to decide the winner. Neither team could find the back of the net until Pirate senior Calvin Forrester ended the contest with the game-winning goal in double overtime.
That was the second time this fall that Forrester scored a game-winning goal in an overtime period as the senior also lifted Platte County to a 1-0 victory on Sept. 16 against Kearney. The Bulldogs wanted revenge when the Pirates took on Kearney (8-9) for the second time this season on Oct. 12, but the Pirates scored five goals and shut out their opponent, 5-0.
Platte County capped off the impressive week with another home victory against Staley (10-6-1) on Oct. 15. Gavin Nichols scored the only goal of the contest with 25:00 remaining from a corner kick assist from Nate Macaluso.
