The city of Platte City was forced to block off a section of sidewalk and parking on the 300 block of Main Street Saturday, June 22 when heavy rains brought a few bricks down from the cornice of an old building — which formerly housed Platte City Flowers and The Platte County Citizen.
Platte City administrator D.J. Gehrt said the owner came in over the weekend and looked at the situation and plans to begin repairs soon. In the meanwhile, Gehrt said, “we don’t want people to get conked on the noggin.”
Previously, tin covering the front of two of the buildings helped hold in loose bricks, but with the tin gone the bricks are free to fall unimpeded.
