The Line Creek Trail in Riverside will be forced to close for bridge construction early next year.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) spoke to the Riverside Board of Aldermen Tuesday, Aug. 6 about upcoming bridge redecking projects. Heather Burrows of MoDOT outlined the plans to replace the driving surface and side supports of the Line Creek, Riverway and Briarcliff bridges on Highway 9. The bridge work will force the closure of Highway 9 from Interstate 635 to Highway 169 with detours planned onto Interstate 29.
MoDOT plans to put the projects to bid late this year with a contractor starting work in the spring. The trail will be closed periodically as work on the bridge above occurs.
Mayor Kathy Rose noted the bridges are in disrepair, and Burrows agreed, stating the redecking and rehabilitation project should add another 20 years to the lifespan of the three bridges before total replacement would be needed.
Some drainage work will also be completed around the Line Creek Trail to slow runoff from the bridge.
Development in the city’s Horizons area continues, with Vazquez Holdings purchasing a 2.5 acres tract in Horizons for $407,000 for construction of a 50,000 square foot building, which is scheduled to come before the city’s planning and zoning commission later this month. In another Horizons transaction, the city and Luke Draily Construction Company will trade ownership of two properties, with a 48,000 square foot building slated for construction on the land Luke Draily purchases. The half acre of property on Riverway the city acquires will facilitate the city’s plans to rebuild that roadway. Also in the Horizons development, the city approved the sale of a roughly 7 acre portion of the planned soccer ground to KC WFC Training, the parent company of the Kansas City Current.
