Cinco de Mayo returns to Platte City

Cinco de Mayo is similar to St. Patrick’s Day, since people of every culture love to celebrate these holidays.

Cinco de Mayo is just days away, and Rapidos Mexican Restaurant will again host their very popular Cinco de Mayo celebration with great food, drink, and music.

This year’s event will offer Tee-Shirt giveaways. Customers can show off their love for Rapidos by wearing one of their branded Tee-shirts. The shirts will be given away throughout the day. Co-owner, Toni Rauch said to come early to be sure you get one.

“At Rapidos Mexican Restaurant, we’re passionate about bringing you the best Mexican food and drink around,” Rauch said. “This Cinco de Mayo, we’re taking it to the next level with Platte City’s biggest Cinco party. Join us for live music, drink specials, food specials, Tee-shirt giveaways, free swag, and an outdoor tent. So, grab your friends and family, and come celebrate with us. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!”The history of Cinco de Mayo is often thought to be a celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day, which actually is on Sept. 16.

Cinco de Mayo actually commemorates the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. The Mexican army, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza, defeated the much larger and better-equipped French army in this battle. While the victory was ultimately short-lived, as the French went on to conquer Mexico, the Battle of Puebla became a symbol of Mexican resistance against foreign domination.

“In addition to our Tee-shirt giveaways, we’ll also have free swag available for you to take home,” Rauch said. “From sunglasses to keychains, you never know what you’ll get, so stop by and see what we have in store.”

A big, outdoor tent will be set up outside the restaurant so customers can enjoy the festivities in the open air.

“Our outdoor tent is the perfect spot to enjoy live music, food and drinks with friends and family, and you can beat the line at our outdoor bar, The Cinco Cantina, where we will serve our delicious margaritas and beer all night,” Rauch said.

Rapidos has also partnered with their neighbor, Suburban Studios for a special deal. Use promo code Rapidos when booking to receive a special Cinco de Mayo discount.

Rapidos will feature the Whiskey Blend Band for the celebration. They are a local Kansas City area-based band formed in 2020. The band is a standard four-piece band (two guitars, drums, and bass) and they play a unique combination of Classic Country music and Classic Rock and Roll. Members include Rick McCauley (Vocals/Guitar), Steve Palmer (Vocals/Bass), Dave Trabue (Vocals/Guitar), and Mike Boguske (drums). You can find more information on their Facebook page. The live music will start at 6 pm.

This will be the third annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at Rapidos. “Last year was such a blast, we decided to do a big party again,” Rauch said.

May 5 will also be a good day to share the festivities with friends. The restaurant will have a professional photographer on site to capture all the fun. Photographer Rob Smith will post the photos on Rapidos’ social media, so customers are reminded to be sure to tag all their friends and family.
