Clemons’ strong offensive play  leads to undefeated start so far

No team has been able to take down the Park Hill South girls’ soccer team (6-0) so far this season as the Lady Panthers are off to their best unbeaten start since winning the first five games in 2009.

Park Hill South junior Olivia Clemons (#11) headbutts the ball around multiple Staley defenders in the Lady Panthers 2-1 overtime victory on March 30.

Park Hill South has done so before having a home game, with four on the road and two at a neutral site. The Lady Panthers opened the season with a 2-1 overtime victory over Lee’s Summit West (0-3) on March 17.

Anna Bolger scored the first goal of the season for Park Hill South off an assist from Susi Schulze in a game where it had possession for 50.6 percent of the night. In a highly competitive contest, regulation ended with a 1-1 tie before Mackenzie Wright scored the game-winner in overtime.

Park Hill South then matched up with Blue Springs (0-4) and came out on top 3-2 on March 23. The Lady Panthers outshot the Lady Wildcats 20 to five and had the ball on their side of the field during 63.3 percent of the game but was in a tight one.

Bolger scored the first Lady Panther goal on the night. Olivia Clemons scored the next two goals – with one being assisted by Savanna Pittman – to help Park Hill South win.

Clemons has been a force to be reckoned with so far, scoring nine goals in the opening six contests. Park Hill South rattled off its third consecutive triumph, beating Grain Valley (3-3), on March 28.

Park Hill South had 14 free kicks on the day and Clemons ended with a hat trick. Both teams attempted 15 shots with the Lady Panthers scoring one more to win 3-2.

For the first time since 2011, Park Hill South started off 4-0 when it took down Staley (3-3) on March 30. It took an extra period of play, but the Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Falcons 2-1.

Staley junior Kiara Carr scored the first goal of the night in the 18th minute. That was the Lady Falcons’ fourth shot of the game, but they only had two more attempts from that point on.

Sarah Listrom scored the sole regulation Park Hill South goal as the first 90 minutes wasn’t enough to decide a winner. With the game tied at 1-1, Schulze took a pass from Clemons and found the back of the net in overtime to lift the Lady Panthers to the 2-1 triumph.

Park Hill South headed to Nixa High School to take on a pair of Class 4 District 5 opponents. The Lady Panthers beat Kickapoo (3-4-1) 3-1 on March 31 before defeating Nixa (3-3) 3-0 on April 1.

Against Kickapoo, Abbey Goins found the back of the net for the first time this spring before Clemons added two more to her season total. Park Hill South had its first shutout of the year with two goals by Clemons and one by Schulze.

Park Hill South was scheduled to have a home game for the first time this spring against Park Hill (1-3) on April 4. The Lady Panthers will look to keep the strong start going on the road against St. Teresa’s Academy (2-2-1) on April 6.
