Local filings for the Tuesday, Aug. 4 primary election began this week, with some early announcements for county officeholder filings already made.

At the Platte County Commission, both district commissioner seats are up for re-election on the Tuesday, Nov. 3 ballot. Filings opened Tuesday, Feb. 25 and will close Tuesday, March 31. First district commissioner Dagmar Wood, a Republican, has announced her intent to run for re-election.

Second district commissioner and fellow Republican John Elliott will not run for re-election. In his place, former assistant county prosecutor Joe Vanover announced last week his intent to run for the seat. Democrat David Park announced his intent to run for the second district seat last year.

Wood, Vanover and Park all filed for election on Tuesday.

Wood will face opposition in the Republican primary from Dan Mason, who also filed for election Tuesday.

Other county offices up this year are those of assessor David Cox, public administrator Jera Pruitt, sheriff Mark Owen and treasurer Rob Willard, all Republicans. Cox, Owen and Willard filed for re-election on Tuesday. Shanna Burns, Republican, filed for public administrator.
