Suburban boys basketball roundup: No. 7 Park Hill South gets revenge versus Truman

Park Hill South extracted a bit of revenge with a victory over Truman on Friday, Feb. 21.

The Panthers — ranked No. 7 in Class 5 in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association poll­­ — got a 59-54 victory in a Suburban Conference Red Division game in Independence. 

The Patriots beat Park Hill South in Riverside in the conference opener earlier this year.

Park Hill South (18-6) held a 10-point lead at halftime and led by 14 going into the fourth. The Patriots outscored the Panthers by seven but couldn’t cap the rally despite Kamien Lennox scoring nine of his 19 points in the fourth.

Messias Dockery’s 18 points paced Park Hill South. Dylan Brougham had 12, while Connor Robertson hit three 3s and had nine points.

Grandview 49, Platte County 46

For the second time this season the Pirates held a lead against the state powerhouse Bulldogs but came up short.

This Suburban Conference Blue Division game was played in Grandview on Friday, Feb. 21.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 5 in Class 4 in the MBCA poll, led 22-20 at halftime but Joey Schultz got hot in the third quarter. He tallied eight points, while Jaden Burnett added five to help the Pirates (11-12) take a 34-33 lead into the fourth.

Blue Springs South 76, Park Hill 64

Leading 20-15 after the first quarter, the Jaguars took command with a 22-10 advantage in the second for a 42-25 halftime to pick up a Suburban Conference Gold Division win on Friday, Feb. 21 in Blue Springs.

Khayden Hooks, Johnny George, Cade Berg and Devin Tomlinson combined for 64 points for the Jaguars to match Park Hill’s outcome.

Stats for Park Hill were not provided by press time.

Blue Springs 66, Park Hill 64

The Trojans missed a shot that could tie the game and lost a Suburban Conference Gold Division game on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The teams were tied 33-33 at halftime and the Wildcats took a 54-51 lead going into the fourth. Kyle Bruce scored six of his 14 points in the final quarter for Blue Springs. Three other Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Ikenna Ezeogu’s 16 points. Michael Harrison and Braden Applehans also had 14 points.

Nyk Bryant’s 15 points paced the Trojans, while Anthony Hall and Christian Bradford both had 14 points.

Park Hill South 71, St. Joseph Central 45

The Panthers gave up only 12 points in the first half and rolled to a Suburban Conference Red Division victory on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in St. Joseph.

Park Hill South built a 31-12 lead over the Indians thanks to 12 points from Connor Robertson in the first half, all on 3-pointers. He finished with a game-high 19 and hit five treys in the win. Messias Dockery had 13 and Dylan Brougham added 11 for South.

The contests were the regular-season finales for Park Hill and Park Hill South. Platte County wraps up the regular season with a home game on Thursday, Feb. 27 against St. Joseph Benton.
