County SWAT responds to two Platte City situations in a week

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded twice in Platte City last week to situations ending in suicide.

The Platte City Police Department and Platte County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team were involved in an armed standoff last week in Platte City that ended with the death by suicide of the suspect.

At just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 28 police first responded to a domestic disturbance on Gates Drive. Later, at around 7:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office SWAT and crisis negotiations teams arrived to speak to the man, who had barricaded himself inside the residence.

When police were able to enter the residence, they found a 48-year-old man dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Friday, July 30, SWAT was called to assist in a warrant service due to the advanced military training of the suspect, Jason Neiswander, who was facing one charge of promotion of child pornography. Police were tasked with taking him into custody at the Platte County Detention Center, where he was to be held without bond.

Neiswander, who served in the Air National Guard, was found dead inside the residence when police entered the home.

According to police spokesmen, he ended his life just hours before police arrived.
