The two persons of interest in the murder of a Farley man are now in custody in Platte County.
McKayla Archambeau and Cordero Cervantes were named shortly after the homicide of Taylor Hawkins, 31, who was found shot to death Tuesday, June 28 at his home on Oberdiek Lane, off Highway 45 near Farley.
Funeral services for Hawkins were held Saturday, July 9 at First Baptist Church in Platte City. In his obituary, Hawkins was remembered as a self-taught musician and sports fan with a unique sense of humor.
A GoFundMe fund raiser has been established to help pay for funeral costs and to help support Hawkins’ mother, Celeste, who is recovering from surgery. As of Tuesday, July 12 more than $12,000 has been raised for the family.
Archambeau and Cervantes were apprehended in a southern state last week and extradited to Platte County on Friday, July 8. Both are being held in the Platte County Detention Center on cash-only bonds pending possible additional charges.
Currently, Archambeau is charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and pleaded not guilty on Monday, July 11. She is scheduled to appear before judge Quint Shafer on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
A search of online court records shows Archambeau was charged with resisting arrest in January in Clay County and possession of a controlled substance later that month in Platte County. Both cases are still pending.
Cervantes is currently charged with first-degree trespassing and pleaded not guilty on July 8. He is set to appear before judge Dennis Eckold on Tuesday, July 19. He is also facing a charge from 2021 of driving with a revoked or suspended license in Platte County. Cervantes failed to appear in court on that charge in March and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
