Another fatality crash occurred on Highway 45 over the weekend, this time near Farley.
A two-vehicle crash was reported to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office at about 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9. The crash involved a vehicle and motorcycle. One person, a 64-year-old Leavenworth, Kan. man, died in the crash. The name of the deceased had not been released by press time.
The crash, which occurred near Grass Pad Road, closed Hwy. 45 from Highway 45 Spur to Oberdiek Road for more than four hours Saturday evening.
This stretch of Hwy. 45 has seen numerous serious and fatality crashes over the past decade, with members of the public periodically voicing concerns to the Missouri Department of Transportation about options to make the highway safer.
Hwy. 45 near Parkville was rebuilt over the course of several years in a phased project which improved sightlines, lowered hills and widened the roadway. Roundabouts were also built to better control traffic speed.
