Creekside project moving forward

The City of Parkville recently sold about 50 acres in the Creekside development to Parkville Development 50, unloading property acquired during the failure of an earlier development after the 2008 economic downturn.

Earlier this month, the board of aldermen approved a real estate purchase agreement with the developer.

At the Tuesday, Sept. 15 meeting, the board approved a portion of its Tax Increment Financing (TIF) agreement with the developer. Last year, the city approved the Creekside Redevelopment Plan and approved a TIF contract related to that plan. As part of the property sale, the purchaser has the right to transfer and assign its obligations pertaining to the TIF contract.

When Parkville Development acquires the land, management then plans to sell a portion of the property to another entity for development under the existing plan.

The board also approved an amendment to the sale agreement changing the closing date of the sale – from Sept. 18 to Oct. 30.

Preliminary approval was also given to the final plat of a portion of the Creekside Village residential development. The current project calls for the construction of 14 townhomes and a green space.

Also at the meeting, director of public works Alysen Abel updated the board on fall cleanup events. Some spring events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and concerns about the coronavirus are still impacting fall events.

Parkville’s fall cleanup will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6305 NW River Park Drive. The event is open to Parkville residents only and residents are required to remove their own items from vehicles and deposit them in the dumpsters provided.

Curbside pickup of bulky items and yard waste will be Monday, Oct. 12, with city public works staff picking up five items per household. Items must be small enough to allow one person to carry them unaided.

Yard waste dropoffs will begin Monday, Oct. 12, also at 6305 NW River Park Drive. Residents may drop off waste Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Nov. 25.
