Crime as a whole went down last year in Platte City.
According to numbers provided during the most recent board of aldermen meeting, the December crime as a whole went down last year in Platte City.
Reports showed drops in two major crime areas.
Burglaries dropped from 17 to six, while stealing/larceny/theft saw a decrease from 92 to 60.
Motor vehicle theft is up by 267 percent – 3 to 11 – over the last calendar year. Another increase came in aggravated assault, up one. For the second year in a row there were no robberies, rape/criminal sexual assaults or homicides/manslaughter reports.
Motor vehicle crashes also fell, from 102 to 88 and hit-and-runs fell from 13 to 8. For the second year in a row there was one pedestrian hit.
In traffic enforcement there was a decrease in stops, citations, warnings and DWI arrests. The biggest drop was traffic stops, a 34 percent decrease to 1,111. There were nine DWI stops, the lowest over the past four years.
