Drops in attendance means less funding for North Platte

The North Platte School District will receive less money from the state after a drop in attendance last year.

The average daily attendance (ADA) numbers dropped this past school year, which means $63,000 less dollars from state formula funding and $15,000 in Prop C funding for the district. Superintendent Karl Matt noted the count for the school year and summer school and part of the reason was for a smaller kindergarten class.

The regular term ADA was 576 students and summer school ADA was 17.

Graduation date was discussed in the July meeting but the issue was tabled. An online poll on Facebook posed the question to North Platte patrons, many of whom voted to keep graduation on Mother’s Day.

A special session was held in late July, which addressed changes to the employee and student handbooks.

School started on Tuesday, Aug. 20 and Matt noted that the elementary and intermediate schools begins at 8:10 a.m. and dismisses at 3:05 p.m., a change from previous years due to new hourly rules passed earlier this year. The start and dismissal time for the junior high and high school will remain the same, starting at 8:10 a.m. and letting out at 3:12 p.m.
