Two of the three longest tenured members of the Platte County R-3 Board of Education are up for re-election in April.
There are two board seats up for grabs during the April 2, 2019 election.
Currently the spots are held by Adam McGinness and Gary Brown.
Filing for the board spots open on Dec. 18 and will run through Jan. 15, 2019. Candidates must file in person at the district education center at 998 Platte Falls Road in Platte City.
The winners will serve a 3-year term.
McGinness first joined the board in 2010 and is currently the vice president of the board. The Platte County graduate currently works for Wells Bank.
Brown was first elected in 2013 and is also a R-3 graduate. He currently is employed by KCP&L at the Iatan plant.
Only board president Sharon Sherwood has been part of the board for longer than those two, getting elected in 2008.
During the board of education meeting last month, the board approved a contract renewal with Neopost USA, Inc., the district’s postage provider. The 36-month contract expires on Jan. 8, 2019 and with the new agreement for 60-months, the district will save money. The new deal will cost $322.62 a month, a bit lower than the $385 that is the current rate. All repairs and maintenance are covered for the life of the lease.
