It was a competitive day when the Park Hill and Platte County boys’ golf teams met in the “Battle of Bragging Rights” Trophy Match at Shiloh Springs Golf Course on April 20.
Park Hill narrowly came out on top by the matter of six strokes, with 177. The Pirates ended with 183 strokes.
“The team had a tough battle today and we knew going in that we would have a close match versus Park Hill,” Platte County head golf coach Trevor Short said. “There’s always that little more edge to a match when something is on the line to win. We gave a great effort today and we are pleased to see the players developing their game and improving on a daily basis.”
Park Hill’s Baker Fredal was the match’s top-medalist with an impressive 39 strokes. Zach Cato, Alejandro Magena and Gavin Schaag all ended with 46 strokes.
Platte County was led by Parker Amos with 41 strokes and Jackson Gabbert was next for the Pirates with 43 strokes. Braden Hendee finished with 48 strokes; Josh Knickman was right ahead of Ben Gillilan as the Platte County duo had 51 and 52 strokes, respectively.
“We’re a young team this season, but these kids have drive; they want to be at the course, and they want to put the effort in to get to the level that they want to be playing. We will keep pushing forward and gain as much experience as we can to help the team strive toward its goals,” Short said.
The regular season won’t last too much longer with the Kansas City Suburban Conference closing out regular season play on May 1. Platte County will be at Paradise Pointe and Park Hill will be at Adams Pointe for districts.
