Golfers impress at state

Park Hill South junior Makenna Casey earned all-state honors at the Class 4 State Meet at Silo Ridge Country Club on Oct. 27.

FARMINGTON – Entering the second day of the Class 3 State Championship with momentum, Platte County junior Ella Green shot under par to walk away with all-state honors at Crown Pointe Golf Club on Oct. 17.

Green shot a 76 on the first day and a 71 on the second day, finishing with 147 total strokes and a 6th place finish overall. She was only three strokes shy of tying for fourth place.

“Ella Green stuck with her plan and executed it well, shooting one under par on the 2nd day of the tournament,” Platte County golf coach Trevor Short said. “It was an amazing display of discipline and focus.”

Platte County only had two other golfers – seniors Mac Borland and Lily Ricketts – and they both had solid outings. Borland ended her high school golfing career with 181 total strokes, shooting scores of 92 and 89, to tie for 48th place.

“Mac Borland was also playing some really good golf. We had a couple of hiccups, but Mac was able to adjust techniques to get back on track,” Short said.

Ricketts ended with a score of 89 on the first day and 94 on the second day, good for a tie in 57th place, two strokes behind Borland. Borland and Ricketts have made a huge impact on the Lady Pirates’ program and leave big shoes to fill.

“Their leadership and work ethics have brushed off on our other players and they see what it takes to get to the highest level in high school golf. These two ladies have a bright future ahead of them in whatever they choose to endeavor. We will have Ella Green for one more year and you already know what her goal is for next season,” Short said.

The Park Hill South girls’ golf team took ninth place at the Class 4 State Meet at Silo Ridge Country Club on Oct. 27. That was in Bolivar, MO.

Makenna Casey tied for seventh place to close out her junior campaign on a high note. She shot a 77 on the first day and a 75 on the second day, good for 152 strokes which was only four shy of the state champion score.

Brynlee Justice was next up for Park Hill South as the junior tied for 35th place with 169 strokes.

Molly Toohig took 79th place and Regan Lea took 91st place.

Park Hill had two state qualifiers, led by Makenna Kincheloe who tied for 19th place with 162 strokes. Reagan Bell was six strokes behind her teammate, earning a 33rd place tie
