Governor Mike Parson last week appointed W. Ann Hansbrough as circuit judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit. She will fill the vacancy created by the term expiration of judge James W. Van Amburg.
Hansbrough, of Parkville, currently serves as an associate circuit court judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri – Columbia and her juris doctor is from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law.
She was appointed associate circuit judge Feb. 14, 2014. Hansbrough has been a Missouri Bar Judicial Conference executive council member since 2018; is a member of the Combatting Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Commission and a member of the Domestic Violence Subcommittee; and a member of the Association of Women Lawyers and the “Women in the Profession” subcommittee.
In 2019, Missouri Lawyers Media selected Hansbrough as a Women’s Justice Award Recipient in the area of public service.
With Hansbrough’s appointment, the Sixth Circuit Judicial Commission is now accepting applications for her previous position of associate circuit judge, Division IV.
Applications are due in February with the commission expected to select its finalists in March after interviews held in Platte City. Parson will select a new judge from that list.
