The Platte City Friends of the Arts kicked off their 2024 Summer Concert Series last week with the help of local music school Harper Haus.
Friends of the Arts is hosting the series every second Saturday of the month with the first concert this past Saturday, June 8, on the front lawn of the historic Platte County Courthouse. Harper Haus music instructor Cade Polsgrove opened the show with a set that was followed by the main act which consisted of students from the school. The band played several recent hits including the Foo Fighters’ “Hero.”
The Harper Haus band played two sets with a break in between that featured a singing contest with two local contestants vying for a $500 scholarship that is sponsored by Harper Haus. The judges for the contest were the few hundred people in attendance. The contest was between Sadie Cayer and Antonio Laguna with the folks in attendance picking Laguna as the winner.
The shows start at 7 p.m. and run until 9 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. The next show is July 13 featuring Run For Cover; No Static, High Gain. The third and final show of the summer will be in August and will feature Cherry Bomb.
