The Platte County Health Department, in cooperation with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, NorthPoint Development and the cities of Riverside and Parkville, opened a mass vaccination site at a warehouse in Horizons Industrial Park on Tuesday, March 2.
The clinic — which is open by appointment only — will run through Thursday this week and will reopen next week as vaccine supplies allow, according to health department officials.
This week, the health department is expected to dispense 400 shots on Tuesday, 400 on Wednesday and 500 on Thursday, with both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines given. Next week, the health department expects to receive around 200 doses of the new Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine.
“It’s gone very smoothly,” said health department director Mary Jo Vernon on Tuesday. “We had a line this morning with people wanting to get their shots first, but at the most the wait time has been about 15 minutes.”
The health department has been dispensing some vaccinations from its newly purchased facility located near KCI Airport, but plans to pivot vaccinations to the Riverside site in the coming weeks.
Other providers in the Northland are offering limited vaccination appointments, with the largest organized site at Cerner’s headquarters in North Kansas City.
