Jury trial begins later this month in abuse case

A Kansas City man will face trial next month, accused of statutory sodomy with a girl less than 12 years of age.

Paul T. Zieske, 44, is in custody at the Platte County Detention Center with no bond. His bond was revoked last fall after prosecutors sought to pursue Zieske as a persistent offender. A jury trial is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 24 before judge James Van Amburg.

According to court documents, Lenexa, Kan. police responded to the victim’s school, when the child exposed herself to classmates. When asked why, she recounted a story involving Zieske exposing himself to her and describing inappropriate activity. The victim’s mother told police she met Zieske on an online dating website and that the relationship was platonic.

She had known Zieske for 2-3 years and when she needed someone to watch her children he offered. He watched the siblings Dec. 10-11, 2016.

During an interview at the Shawnee, Kan. advocacy center Sunflower House on Jan. 3, 2017 the victim said at the suspect’s home he pulled down his pants while they were playing in his room. She said he gave her chocolate with a cherry inside, then pulled down his pants.

The victim watched Zieske use the restroom, according to the report, and she was able to describe the suspect’s body in detail. When he returned to the room, Zieske allegedly told the victim to use her mouth on his body.

In the forensic interview the victim was able to draw an anatomically correct sketch of Zieske, drew the inside of Zieske’s bedroom and described where the sex acts took place.
