KCI Airport police officers injured

Two KCI Airport Police were injured in an incident last week, one in a crash and one by shooting.

The two suspects are in custody in the Platte County Detention Center and appeared in court early this week. Lacy Perry of Independence and Kevin Bloom of Warrensburg are facing several charges involved in the incident.

According to Kansas City Police Department spokesmen, around 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, a KCI police officer responded to a call of a suspicious white pickup in one of the airport’s satellite parking lots. When the officer arrived the suspect took off in the white pickup and a pursuit ensued, ending in a crash that injured the officer.

A second officer arrived to assist and the two suspects were apprehended. A struggle kicked off between the officer and one of the suspects when she escaped from her handcuffs, ending with the officer shot in the leg.

Airport operations were not affected by the incident and the officer is expected to make a full recovery.
