There were nine schools in the Class 1-3 Divisions and the Blue Jays ended with 42 total points, which was 12 more points than first place Maryville. West Platte had four runners finish in the top-10 among the smaller schools, including a first-place finish from Charlie Kinslow.

“Charlie took 30 seconds off last year’s time on this course and ran his second best time ever, finishing in 17:06,” West Platte head cross-country coach Mike Lowe said. “This is the first time we have had four athletes run under 19:25 on this course since the 2012 state championship team.”

Ryan Pattison and Jonah McGivern were the next two Blue Jays to finish as Pattison ended in seventh place with a time of 18:58. Not far behind him was McGivern in eighth place who finished with a 19:12 split.

“Ryan ran his best career time on this course and Jonah continues to impress early on in the season,” Lowe said.

Two places behind the West Platte duo was Tristan Newkirk who ran two minutes faster at the invite than he did in 2020. The junior ran the 5k in 19:20, giving him a ninth place finish.

Senior Isaac Helmich ended in 19th place at 20:33 and Hutch Bartee ran a time of 21:33 and ended in 29th place. In his first race at Raymore-Peculiar, freshman Thomas Deffet ended in 37th place with a time of 23:22.

“I was very happy with the times put up by the kids. Having four on the medal stand makes for a good morning,” Lowe said.
