When Charlie Kinslow crossed the finish line well ahead of the pack of 800-meter runners at Bishop LeBlond High School on April 26, in 1:58.30, history was set.
The junior has been focusing on breaking the record – which was previously 2:00.10 set by Jim Hornbeck in 1976 – all season long. While he has still yet to have anyone beat him in the 800-meter run, Kinslow is still focused on improving every meet.
The Blue Jay continued his strong running in the KCI Conference Meet on April 30 when he broke the conference record in the 800-meter run. Kinslow not only won the race with a time of 2:04.01, but also brought home a team-high 36 points – first place in the 800-meter run, 1,600-meter run and 4x400-meter relay, along with third place in the 4x800-meter relay.
Similarly to Kinslow, the West Platte boys’ 4x100-meter relay team of Augie Hill, Dominic Williams, McClain Zendejas and Chad Fowles also made history. One week after breaking the previous Blue Jays’ record in the event, the relay team not only set a new program record but also broke the KCI Conference Meet record.
