After a hot scoring surge and five wins in its last six games, the Park Hill South girls’ soccer team (10-5) came back down to Earth with a 2-1 overtime loss to Lee’s Summit (8-2) on April 28.
In a defensive battle of a first half, the Lady Panthers and Lady Tigers both had five shot attempts, but none found their way into the goal. Keegan Good ended the scoring drought in 67’ when the senior took a pass from Kate Hermelink and found the back of the net.
Lee’s Summit tied the game in the 76th minute to force overtime and took possession early in extra time and scored in the opening minute. The 2-1 loss was the second time this season that Park Hill South played an overtime game and both times, the Lady Panthers fell short in extra time.
Park Hill South bounced back in its next game, with a 4-1 victory over Staley (9-5) on April 28. Olivia Clemons had a hat-trick on the day, but all three of her goals were after Good scored the opening one in the 15th minute off a pass from Clemons.
Good returned the favor at 17’ as the senior assisted on Clemons’ first goal of the day. Clemons slipped on through the net in the 25th minute when Olivia Gates connected on a pass to her to give the Lady Panthers a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Staley scored its first and only goal in the 61st minute and then Clemons capped off the day with goal number three at 70’. Park Hill South has three more games left in the regular season: against St. Joseph’s Central (7-6) on May 5, at Oak Park (7-8) on May 10 and at Lee’s Summit (8-2) on May 12.
