In a huge, late season match between the Platte County boys’ tennis team and Park Hill, it was the Trojans who walked off the court as the victor on April 27.
In Park Hill’s home match, it defeated Platte County 6-3 when the Trojans won four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches. The Pirates’ only doubles victory came by a score of 9-7 when the Vanek brothers narrowly defeated the Trojans’ number three and number four players, Eli Stammler and Will Kirtley.
Park Hill’s Kenneth Hernandez and Tristan Houchin beat Platte County’s Jack Bralley and Shane Duggan 8-5. In the doubles’ top-doubles match, Park Hill came out on top when Jack Forrest and Kobe Smith defeated Gavin Nichols and Ethan Slaggie 9-8 on a tiebreaker.
Nichols and Nathan Vanek were the only Pirates who were able to win their singles matches, taking down Slaggie and Kirtley. Forrest and Smith’s match went down to the wire as the Trojans won 11-10 (7).
Stammler defeated Austin Vanek by a score of 10-6 and Carson Beach beat Bralley 10-7. Lastly, Josh Minder came out on top over Duggan, 10-3.
