Lady Blue Jays soaring with multiple sweeps

Sweeps have become a frequent occurrence for the West Platte volleyball team (4-3-1) as that’s been the catalyst for every match that the Lady Blue Jays have won so far this fall.

Coming off back-to-back 2-0 wins in pool play of the KCI Tournament, West Platte had two straight 3-0 sweeps in regular season play. The Lady Blue Jays hit the road to take on Orrick (1-3) on September 1.

None of the sets were competitive with Orrick only scoring two points in the opening set, before falling 25-8 and 25-9. West Platte senior Libby Vandel had eight kills and one block, Arianna Nower had 17 aces and Maddison McMillan had 16 assists in the match.

In the Lady Blue Jays’ home opener against Kansas City’s Lutheran (0-4), they once again had a 3-0 sweep on September 8. West Platte opened the first set with an 8-2 margin before winning 25-16.

The Lady Blue Jays took set two by a score of 25-10 and pulled out set three 25-17 to win the match. Maddison McMillan dished out 28 assists on the day, while Avery Holmes finished with nine digs and Vandel ended with nine and kills four blocks.

The Blue Jays fell short in their most recent match against Lafayette County (6-4) on September 12. West Platte will take on East Buchanan (8-2-1) on September 15 for the third time this season after meeting twice in the KCI Conference Tournament.
