Lady Panthers and Lady Trojans clinch top-4 seeds in districts

Park Hill South senior Cameron Farber, above, broke the single game program record for made 3-pointers when she made seven of his 11 shots from behind the arc against Oak Park on Feb. 14.

In a tough district where five of the top seven teams have a winning record, the seedings for the Class 6 District 8 Girls’ Tournament have been released.

The Park Hill South girls’ basketball team (16-8) has clinched a top-3 seed at districts for the first time since 2019. Meanwhile, the fourth-seeded Park Hill girls’ basketball team (15-9) will have its lowest seed since 2019 after being the No. 1 seed in the last two seasons.

In the Class 6 District 8 Tournament, the Panthers will be the No. 3 seed and open play against Liberty (10-15) on Feb. 26. Park Hill South swept the Blue Jays in the regular season with a 51-33 win on Jan. 26 and 45-41 victory on Feb. 2.

The Panthers have ended the regular season with three straight victories – including seven wins in their last nine games – ahead of the season finale against Lee’s Summit (11-11) on Feb. 24. Park Hill South’s most recent game was a 57-22 win against North Kansas City (9-15) on Feb. 21, which brought its Kansas City Suburban Conference Red Division record to 5-3.

When the Panthers came out on top over Oak Park (8-17) 75-35 on Feb. 14, Cameron Farber broke the single game program record for made 3-pointers when the senior knocked down seven of her 11 shots from behind the arc. Farber scored a season-high 21 points in the contest and her senior counterpart Jayme Dixon ended with 17 points and four steals.

The Park Hill girls’ basketball team (15-9) fell short in its most recent game to a talented Blue Springs South team (21-4) when the Jaguars defeated the Trojans 60-51 on Feb. 21.

Before the Trojans took the floor, they had already clinched the No. 4 seed in the Class 6 District 8 Tournament. Park Hill hasn’t won a district title since 2016 but will be the host this season.

With inclement weather postponing the Raymore-Peculiar (6-17) game that was supposed to happen on Feb. 17, the Trojans will play one more regular season game on Feb. 23. Park Hill will take on Liberty North (12-10) in the opening round on Feb. 26 after splitting the season series: the Eagles won 50-40 at Liberty North on Jan. 19 and the Trojans won 37-30 at Park Hill on Feb. 3.
