Lady Panthers claim second place at conference track

North Platte sophomore Brianna DeBord won three goal medals en route to the Lady Panthers taking second place at the KCI Conference Track Meet.

The North Platte girls’ track and field team was the runner-up in the KCI Conference Meet at Lathrop High School on April 29.

The Lady Panthers only trailed Lawson’s 191.5 points as they had 162 points. Olivia Rogers and Brianna DeBord were both three-for-three in their individual events, being responsible for all six of North Platte’s first-place finishes.

Rogers won the 100-meter dash in 12.34 seconds, ahead of Bella Kitmitto and Lonee French in third and sixth places. Rogers also earned a gold medal in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.68 seconds, followed by Kalli Schuster in third place and Kitmitto in fifth place.

In the 400-meter run, Rogers crossed the finish line with the winning time of 1:00.09. Graci Williams earned fourth place in 1:03.53.

DeBord won the 800-meter run in 2:33.88, one place ahead of Shelby Lingle who crossed the finish line in 2:35.4. In the 1,600-meter run, the Lady Panthers had the first three finishers led by DeBord in 5:33.81; Chloe Heckman was the runner-up in 5:43.22; and Lingle earned a bronze medal with a time of 5:45.94.

DeBord also won the 3,200-meter run when she completed the race in 11:44.43. Heckman collected second place in 11:59.39 and Jessa Cassity ended in fourth place in 12:31.24.

West Platte junior Julia Pattison ended in fifth place in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs at Lathrop High School.

Kylee Sipes claimed third place in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.89 seconds. North Platte had the winning 4x100 and 4x800-meter relay teams, with the 4x200 earning second place.

The West Platte girls took third place overall with 102 points with Hailey Peters being the only conference champion on the day. The sophomore won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.40 seconds. 

Sam Baker had a pair of top-3 finishes in the 200 and 400-meter runs with times of 27.3 seconds and 1:01.74, respectively. Julia Pattison took fifth place in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs with time of 5:51.27 and 12:41.65, respectively.

West Platte had three relay teams compete, all of which finished in the top-3. The 4x100 and 4x800 took second place and the 4x400 ended in third place.

Maddie McMillan took fourth place in the 800-meter run and in the javelin. The junior ran in 2:41.39 and threw for 101-07 feet.

Laura Hill had the best outing in the field events, taking second place in the pole vault with a height of 8-06-feet. Addison Bailey collected a bronze medal in the triple jump with a leap of 33-10 feet.

The North Platte boys took fourth place with 84 points, trailing West Platte, East Buchanan and Lawson. Josh Schaffart was the only individual to win any event, doing so with a 10:17.91 outing in the 3,200-meter run.

Corbin Britting was the fourth 100-meter runner to cross the finish line – with the junior having a time of 11.57 seconds – before taking third place in the 200-meter run in 23.7 seconds. Britting also took third in the 400-meter run, being an all-conference athlete three times, with a time of 52.35 seconds.

In the 1,600-meter run, the Panthers had three of the first eight runners to cross the finish line, led by Schaffart in 5:02.48. Heckman’s time of 5:03.86 earned him sixth place and Drake Keraus ended in 5:05.64 in eighth place.

Heckman was the runner-up in the 3,200-meter run after crossing the finish line in 10:19.05, followed by Keraus in 11:17.66. The 4x400-meter relay claimed fifth place and the 4x800-meter relay ended in third place.

Coen Rainsbarger was an all-conference athlete in two jumping events. The sophomore finished in second place in the long jump with a leap of 19-05.75 feet and third place in the pole vault after clearing the 10-06-foot bar.

Cameron Wortham tossed the discus 118-09.5 feet to earn fourth place. Jesse Williams had a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a 41-01-foot throw.
