The Panthers pounced the Hornets 15-0 on Oct. 7, as the Park Hill South softball team (17-13) ended the regular season on a high note.
Park Hill South’s offense scored in every inning as it ended the Panther’s senior night with 14 hits. North Kansas City only had two hits plus five errors, so the Panthers were able to pull out the victory with ease.
“It was great to get this victory like this for senior night,” Park Hill South softball head coach Josh Walker said. “Most of the seniors have been playing varsity since they were freshman and sophomores, so it is nice to get them the credit that they deserve on the field in the way we did it.”
Park Hill South scored five runs in the opening inning and added nine runs in the second inning to cruise to a dominant victory. Five Panther players ended with two hits while Erin Stewart finished with 4 RBIs and Jolie McMinn added 3 RBIs.
“We are on a bit of a winning streak, and I knew the girls were capable of this. If we can keep this going, then we are peaking at the right time, which is what we always want to do at the end of the season,” Walker said.
Park Hill South will enter the Class 5 District 8 Tournament as the fifth seed at the Creekside Baseball Complex. The Panther’s first game is scheduled against St. Joseph’s Central (14-7) on Oct. 12, and if they move on, Park Hill South will take on the winner of Staley (18-6) and North Kansas City (6-15) on Oct. 13.
“Our mindset it to see how many people we can upset. We dug ourselves a hole with our record and we got the seed that we deserve, so our goal now is to see how far we can go,” Walker said.
