The Park Hill softball team (8-10) ended the regular season on a high note as it took down Liberty North (19-11) 5-4 on Oct. 7.
The Trojans never trailed in the contest and scored at least one run in four of the last five innings after a scoreless first two innings. In the top of the third inning, Grace Woods doubled and Mackenzie Morenita scored to give Park Hill a 1-0 lead.
Liberty North responded with a home run in the ensuing inning to tie the contest 1-1. The next time the Trojans were batting, Kamree Davis singled and Cadence Sackuvich crossed home plate to help Park Hill regain the lead, 2-1.
The Trojans added three more hits and two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead. Morenita singled on a ground ball and Antonia Muniz scored after an error by the Eagles.
Morenita added another Park Hill run later on in the inning when Woods singled for her second hit and second RBI of the contest. The Eagles responded with a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to narrow the deficit, 5-2.
After a scoreless sixth inning by both teams, the Trojans added one run to the scoreboard. Alyssa Ball singled on a ground ball to right center field and Mya Lewis scored.
The Eagles scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Trojans pulled out the victory. Ball finished with a team-high three hits to go with one RBI and Lauren Emmendorfer added 2 hits.
Muniz was on the mound for the entire contest and ended with six strikeouts. The Trojans will enter the Class 5 District 8 Tournament as the sixth seed starting on Oct. 12.
