Staying undefeated is a difficult task and it finally ended for the Park Hill South girls’ soccer team (11-2) after losing two of its last three.
The Lady Panthers won 10 games without a loss before falling to Blue Valley West (8-1-1) in the Blue Springs Tournament on April 17. Park Hill South only played two contests in the tournament – splitting them – but came up short 5-1.
The Lady Panthers fell behind early, allowing two scores in the first six minutes. Olivia Clemons had the only Park Hill South goal of the night in the 15th minute as it went behind 4-1 in the first half and couldn’t score anymore with only four shot attempts all night.
Park Hill South bounced back with a 3-1 win over Blue Springs South (9-4-1) on April 18. Outshooting the Lady Jaguars nine to seven, the Lady Panthers still trailed early on.
After allowing a goal in the 33rd minute, Lilly Reuscher beat the halftime buzzer and the teams went into the break with a 1-1 tie. Clemons broke the tie in the 59th minute and Anna Bolger took a pass from Makenzie Wright in the 67th minute to put the game away.
Park Hill South dropped the tournament after Lee’s Summit (7-3) joined. The Lady Panthers went on to play Liberty North (10-0) in regular season play and lost 3-0 on April 20.
The Lady Eagles had two first half goals and one in the 78th minute, while outshooting the Lady Panthers 14 to six. Liberty North finished in third place at state last year, yet this was the first time since 2018 that Park Hill South lost this matchup in the regular season.
The Lady Panthers hadn’t been shut out this season up to this point and will look to bounce back. Park Hill South will take on Park Hill (4-8) on April 27.
